The apartment itself features air-conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen, a terrace, satellite TV, DVD player, CD player, and Internet.  It is tastefully decorated and furnished, has laundry facilities, and a maid service - everything you need for your comfort and entertainment.  Not that you’ll necessarily be spending much time at home.  Playa del Carmen is an excellent place to get out and about, and the local area offers a never-ending list of activities and attractions.  Of course, there are plenty of water-related activities, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing trips, and boat rentals, and you can even go diving and swimming in the ‘cenotes’ – fascinating water-filled caverns.  On dry land you can enjoy horse-back riding, golf, and, for the more adventurous, a spot of sky diving.  More laid-back activities include yoga, spa treatments, or perhaps even a few Spanish classes since Playa del Carmen is blessed with some good language schools.

If you want to get out and discover the local area there are plenty of great places to visit.  You can take a fun trip on the ferry to the island resort of Cozumel, which lies opposite Playa del Carmen.  Just a couple of miles to the south of Playa del Carmen is the fabulous eco-theme park of Xcaret, where you can discover the wonders of tropical nature and the ancient Mayan civilization.  Or if you continue another thirty-eight miles you can marvel at the real thing in Tulum, where a fascinating and beautiful Mayan archeological site overlooks the ocean.  If you’re willing to travel further, there are also magnificent Mayan ruins set in the jungle at Chichen Itza and Coba.  If you’re looking for a bit of hustle, bustle and serious nightlife, the famous resort of Cancun is just forty miles to the north.
