 Playa del Carmen is an extremely pleasant and convenient resort town.  Fifth Avenue, renowned for its shopping, restaurants, bars, clubs and its great atmosphere in general, is just a short stroll away from Casa del Mar.  If you fancy taking a fabulous day-trip to Cozumel on the ferry, the port is only a few blocks away.  Also in town, there is a gorgeous bird sanctuary with nature walks.  Just a couple of miles to the south is the extravagantly beautiful eco-theme park of Xcaret, and another thirty-eight miles to the south of that is the awe-inspiring Mayan archeological site of Tulum, perched proudly above the beach and the Caribbean Sea.  In and around Playa del Carmen there is a whole array of activities for you to choose from; from the most obvious in a tropical resort, like snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing trips, boat rentals and golf, to ones you may not have thought of, such as yoga, spa treatments, horseback riding, and diving and swimming in ‘cenotes’ (caverns filled with freshwater from underground rivers).  If you would like to improve your Spanish language skills while you’re here there are also plenty of good language schools in town.
