Playa del Carmen is a great place for a tropical getaway.  It is a lot smaller and more personal than Cancun, its famous neighbor forty miles to the north, yet large enough to have all the attractions, services, and activities you would expect from a first-class destination.  Whether you are interested in golf, horseback riding, yoga, spa treatments, Spanish classes, fishing trips, boat rentals, or scuba diving it’s all here, and more.   What’s more, the local area is absolutely fantastic for day trips and excursions.  Just down the street from your condo is the port where you can hop on a ferry and in forty-five minutes be on the island of Cozumel, a fabulous maritime day trip.  The bird sanctuary in Playa del Carmen, with its nature paths and other tropical flora and fauna is second to none.  Dazzling Xcaret nature and cultural theme park is just a couple of miles down the road.  The mystical Mayan archeological site of Tulum, overlooking the ocean, is less than an hour to the south, and many more Mayan treasures abound in the Yucatan peninsula.  You can enjoy fresh- water diving and swimming in the numerous ‘cenotes’, caverns emanating from the underground rivers in the region.
